What is it?

Noted now supports recording client ethnicities using the HISO ethnicity standard. This is the New Zealand government Identity standard for recording ethnicity.

For more information visit the Te Whatu Ora identity standards page.

How is it better?

There is now a wider range of options to select from and also ability for a client to provide multiple ethnicities to more accurately describe themselves. Reports can be tailored to display differing levels of detail depending on needs.

Ethnicity levels

We support all 4 levels available in the standard to be able to tailor the level of detail to the needs of your organisation. We start each organisation using the most comprehensive level 4 option for best data capture with the ability to then output that information at other levels for reporting purposes.

It is also possible to change the level that ethnicity information is captured for an organisation if required. Recording at a levels other than 4 however is not recommended and only for those familiar with the standard and the implications of capturing at other levels.

For more information on HISO ethnicity data see Ethnicity Data Protocols for the Health and Disability Sector document from University Auckland.

How do I use it?

Adding or editing clients

There is now a separate "Ethnicities" section within a client where new ethnicities can be found. Any existing data from the previous system will also now be found here.

Reporting - filtering data

The Ethnicity filter within reporting now offers the updated selections. Additionally you can now also choose to select the option by level for wider selection.

Reporting - output

When selecting the output of a report there are now multiple options to be able to see the stored ethnicities at the appropriate level.
